we are now in bay saint louis, mississippi. lafayette was fantastic. i love cajun country, cajun folks, cajun music, cajun food. we were in a small campground run by the city of lafayette and it rained again. judy told me that it has rained in every campground we have visited so far. it has been rainy and cold but it has not dampened our spirits. our last night in lafayette we went to randol's restaurant and dance hall. i ate boiled crawfish for the first time. they were quite delicious. it was the culmination of a crawfish orgy that encompassed ways to eat crawfish that i had never imagined. i had crawfish enchiladas, crawfish omlet, crawfish etouffe, crawfish fondue, crawfish po-boy, crawfish gumbo, and crawfish boudin. all of them were delicious, but the plain boiled crawfish were the best. the day we spent at avery island was fun. it is the place they make tabasco sauce. the only place they make tabasco sauce. our new friend albert took us on a tour of the jungle gardens there. it is quite a beautiful place. in the extensive gardens there is a small temple with a very old buddha. it was made sometime in the 1100's. lots of bamboo, lots of magnificent live oak trees. i guess one of the most notable things about avery island is how the atmosphere is overwhelmed with the aroma of tabasco sauce. it permeates everywhere.
