after bay st. louis we went to dauphine island on mobile bay in alabama. it is a barrier island that boasts a fort established in the early 1800's, fort gaines. there was a re-enactment of a civil war battle that didn't happen there but it couldn't be held in downtown mobile so it was staged at the fort. it was a nice thing to watch. a lot of costumed guys shooting cannons and marching about. there was an anchor there that belonged to admiral farragut, he of "damn the torpedoes" fame. it was a very large anchor. all in all an enjoyable couple of days. no rain for a change.
