wonderful St. George Island, vicinity of Apalachicola, Florida

we got to saint george island on feb. 5. it is a summer resort island for parts of georgia and alabama. there are about 9 miles of beautiful sand beachs and miles of large rental and summer beach houses. very empty now but i am sure it is burstine at the seams in the summer. we found a great local hangout called "eddie teach's raw bar". wine and beer and fabulous oysters on the half shell. we loved the place and spent a couple of nights there. i bought a hat from teh bar and wear it all the time.

we went to nearby apalachicola and toured the "rainey house". it was built in the early 1800s and was bought by the town and maintained as an historical attraction for the last five years or so. don ga was out guide and was quite knowledgable about the history of the place. we spent about a hour with him and had an enjoyable interlude.
