mas de new orleans...

new orleans is quite an interesting city in many ways. the archetecture is a delight in the french quarter... i suspect the garden district is as well but we had no chance to see it because of the traffic, maybe next time. there was art all over the place, some in quite unsuspected places. the french propensity for bright colors was evident and the cityscape was never boring.

the campground we were in was all wrong... but safe (the locals always ended any conversation with the salutation "be safe"). it was in a blighted industrial section on the east side of town,it had no water pressure so the showers dribbled and .the toilets were mounted about six inches too high. we were about five miles from the french quarter. so our bead collection escapades were always a shuttle bus ride away from the campground. i suppose if i had it to do over i would celebrate mardi gras in some other town... lafayette for instance, then go to new orleans after mardi gras. that way we could enjoy more of what new orleans has to offer and still catch all the beads we wanted. however... i'm sure the beads in new orleans were much more diversified and interesting.
