it's raining again..

we went to lafayette today but more about that later.

yesterday we also visited st. martinville.we decided to stop there to have lunch and walk around the town for a bit. we found all of the restaurants closed after 2:00 p.m. but did manage to find a small bakery open and had some pastry and chocolate milk. the business of the month was the st. martinville garden club. that should tell you something. there was a beautiful old catholic church that is quite nice. outside the church is a statue of evengeline, a heroine of henry w. longfellow's epic poem of the same name. it was donated to the city of saint martinville by delores del rio in 1929, as you can read on the plaque. it is mystifying how this poem created the longfellow evengeline state historical park, the first of it's kind in louisiana. this will be discussed in the next post.
