texas... without internet access.

this year we have been visiting mostly state and federal parks with camping facilities and none have had internet acess as yet. right now we are in san antonio visiting with my sister so we are at a "civilian" park that has all the modern amenities. except last night it snowed here (the first time since christmas, 2004) so we are without water (pipes frozen in park) ane i suspect the pool won't be open today either.

we entered texas at port arthur, janis joplin's hometown. it is basically oil refineries with beaches and sea rim state park. we saw the park on the map and headed for it through the maze of refinery piping and back roads and found the park with two other intrepid travelers' rv's parked willy-nilly in parking areas that proved to be the only remants of a prkk destroyed by a hurricane (ike?) several years back. the ranger came by and told us we could park overnight, free of charge, but that in the morning there was going to be a big clean-up crew there and we may be disturbed if we were not up and out early. the only facilities were two porta potties. no water, no electric. it was very cold that night. at seven a.m. i got out of bed to discover everything covered with a quarter of an inch of frost. not a good omen for the just started vacation. we got dressed and out of there after a quick cup of coffee. it is scheduled to be rebuilt this summer, they have big plans.
