took the ferry into galveston, nice way to go. we visited an ofshore oil drilling rig museum, being curious about the technology. it is a very amazing process, involving lots of exploration, analysis, and machinery. it was an interesting exposure to the magnitude of the undretaking. the museum, the ocean star, is a converted drilling platform and has been converted into an educational facility. you get the feeling of what it was like to operate through displays, video explanations, and just the experience of being on the platform around all of the machinery. the ocean star is located on galveston bay, lots of harbor activity going on. cruise ships coming and going, fishing vessels as well. lots to see and do. it was cold as all get out.
we next visited the aquarium at moody gardens. nice place... very impressive with lots of sea creatures.
rain, rain, rain go away. our campsite was flooded. awash we departed... on teh way out we saw a sugar cauldron that had been converted into a sort of house. can't say it is my idea of ideal habitation, but it would do in a hurricane i guess. i can see bobbing around in the gulf in the aftermath of a storm.
